01 · Getting started

Save once. Fill when you choose.

  1. Open a Google Form.Use the form's response or preview page—not the Google Forms editor.
  2. Complete non-sensitive answers.Do not submit. FormMemento reads only the visible answers when you select Save.
  3. Create a profile.Select the FormMemento toolbar icon, enter a recognisable profile name, and choose Save.
  4. Fill later.Open a supported form, choose Fill beside a profile, and review every answer before submitting manually.
FormMemento never clicks Submit.

You remain in control of the final review and submission.

02 · Profiles

Using and managing profiles

What is stored?

A profile contains its name, the originating form identifier and title, supported question labels and saved values, and timestamps. The free beta stores up to five profiles locally.

Can one profile fill a different form?

Yes, FormMemento can attempt to match question labels on another Google Form. It asks for confirmation first. Different wording, changed options, or a redesigned form may leave some answers unmatched.

How do I rename or delete a profile?

Open FormMemento and select the three-dot button. The profile manager lets you rename or delete one profile, search profiles, or delete every profile after confirmation.

Why was an answer not saved?

Empty answers, file uploads, password inputs, and recognisable password, OTP, payment-card, security-code, or bank-account questions are excluded. Unsupported or unusually structured questions may also be skipped.

03 · Backups

Export and import

Export a backup

  1. Open the profile manager using the three-dot button.
  2. Select Export backup.
  3. Store the downloaded JSON file somewhere private and secure.

Import a backup

  1. Open the profile manager and select Import backup.
  2. Choose a FormMemento JSON backup.
  3. Review the number of profiles and confirm the import.
Backups can contain personal answers.

They are ordinary files outside FormMemento's protected extension storage. Do not email or publicly share them.

Imports with an unknown format, invalid schema, or more than the free profile limit are rejected.

04 · Troubleshooting

Common problems

“Open a Google Form first”

FormMemento works only on pages under docs.google.com/forms/. Open the form's response or preview page, refresh it once after installation, and try again.

“No completed answers were found”

Complete at least one supported, non-sensitive question before saving. Empty, file-upload, password, or sensitive-labelled questions do not count.

Some answers could not be matched

The form may have changed, use different question wording, or contain an unsupported structure. Fill the missing answers manually and review the whole form before submitting.

A dropdown or option did not fill

The saved option must still exist and closely match its current label. If the form owner renamed or removed it, choose the correct option manually and save a fresh profile if needed.

I reached the five-profile limit

The free beta stores five profiles. Open the profile manager and delete a profile you no longer need before saving another.

My profiles disappeared

Profiles are local to the browser profile where they were created. Clearing extension data, uninstalling FormMemento, resetting the browser profile, or switching devices can remove or hide them. Export backups before making browser changes.

The extension icon does nothing after installation

Refresh the Google Form tab so the newly installed content script can load. Confirm the extension is enabled and the page URL begins with https://docs.google.com/forms/.

05 · Privacy & safety

Local by design

  • Profiles stay in the browser's local extension storage unless you explicitly export a backup.
  • No FormMemento account, publisher-operated cloud database, analytics, advertising, tracking SDK, or remote code is used.
  • The extension reads visible Google Forms labels and values only when you choose Save or Fill.
  • FormMemento never automatically submits a form.

Sensitive-field detection reduces accidental capture but cannot understand every custom question. Never save confidential, financial, authentication, health, government-identifier, or similarly sensitive information in an autofill profile.

Delete local FormMemento data

Delete individual profiles or use Delete all profiles in the profile manager. Uninstalling the extension normally removes its local extension storage according to browser behaviour.

06 · Accessibility

Keyboard and visual access

The popup and profile manager are designed for keyboard operation with visible focus indicators, labelled controls, readable contrast, and responsive layouts.

  • Use Tab and Shift+Tab to move through controls.
  • Use Enter or Space to activate the focused button.
  • The default extension shortcut Alt+Shift+F opens FormMemento on Windows and Linux. Browser shortcut conflicts can be changed from the browser's extension-shortcuts page.

If a task is not accessible with your browser or assistive technology, report it to support with the page, browser version, assistive technology, and intended task.
