ImageMemento help center

The right format,
without the workaround.

Learn how to save originals, convert images, manage optional host access, tune quality, and solve common download issues.

01 · Getting started

Right-click. Choose. Save.

  1. Find the image.Right-click the image itself, not an empty area or page background.
  2. Open ImageMemento.Choose the ImageMemento submenu in the browser context menu.
  3. Choose an output.Save the best available original, or select JPG, PNG, or WebP.
  4. Respond to access if asked.Allow only if you want ImageMemento to fetch the selected image from that host. Denying leaves your browser unchanged.
Nothing is uploaded.

Image conversion occurs locally in the browser after your explicit command.

02 · Choosing a format

Original or converted?

Best available original

Use this when you want the source image without conversion. ImageMemento checks the displayed source, responsive candidates, and a directly linked original where available.

JPG

Useful for photographs and broad compatibility. JPG cannot preserve transparency, so transparent pixels use the background colour chosen in Settings.

PNG

Useful for transparency, interface graphics, and lossless output. Converted PNG files can be larger than JPG or WebP.

WebP

Useful for efficient web-ready output with adjustable quality and transparency support.

03 · Site access

Access stays optional

Many images can be saved without a new permission. If conversion requires reading a separate image host, the browser asks whether ImageMemento may read that host. The request is limited to the selected host, not every website.

Revoke a host

  1. Open the ImageMemento toolbar popup.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Find previously granted image hosts and revoke the one you no longer want to allow.

Denying access is safe. The requested conversion may not finish, but ImageMemento does not weaken or bypass the site's controls.

04 · Settings

Tune the output

  • JPG quality: balances file size and visual quality.
  • WebP quality: controls lossy WebP output.
  • JPG background: replaces transparent pixels when saving as JPG.
  • Ask where to save: uses the browser's save-location dialog when enabled.
  • Delete all settings: restores defaults and revokes granted image hosts.

05 · Troubleshooting

Common problems

The ImageMemento menu is missing

Confirm the extension is enabled, then refresh the page after installation. Right-click directly on an image element. Browser-internal pages and some protected surfaces do not allow extension context menus.

The browser asks for permission

The image is hosted somewhere ImageMemento cannot currently read. Check the hostname in the browser prompt and allow it only if you trust that site and want the conversion. You can revoke it later in Settings.

The image could not be fetched

The image may require authentication, use a short-lived address, block cross-site requests, or be protected by the website. Try Save best available original. ImageMemento does not bypass access controls.

A JPG has a solid background

JPG does not support transparency. Choose PNG or WebP to preserve transparent pixels, or change the JPG transparency background in Settings.

The original has an unexpected filename or format

Some servers use generated URLs, misleading extensions, or generic download names. ImageMemento uses response information and detected image data where available, but the source server ultimately controls the original response.

A data or blob image behaves differently

Data URLs and page-created blob URLs can be saved when they remain available to the current page. Temporary blob URLs may expire when the page changes or reloads.

06 · Privacy & deletion

Local and user-initiated

  • No image uploads, publisher-operated server, account, analytics, ads, tracking, remote code, or artificial intelligence.
  • Only the selected image is processed after you choose a command.
  • Settings and granted-host records stay in browser extension storage.

Use Delete all settings to restore defaults and revoke host access. Uninstalling normally removes extension storage according to browser behaviour.

07 · Accessibility

Keyboard and readable controls

The popup and Settings page use labelled controls, visible focus, readable contrast, and keyboard-operable buttons. The browser context menu follows your browser and operating-system accessibility settings.
